Solid state polymer-metal ion batteries without special electrodes

Abstract:
Today, lithium-polymer rechargeable batteries are the best choice for storing large amounts of electricity. The most important performance properties of these batteries are their high energy density, which is twice higher than that of the nickel-metal-hydride battery, and the absence of a memory effect. The price of lithium-polymer rechargeable batteries is heavily influenced by the expensive Li-metal-oxide anode. Today there are a large number of attempts to improve the capacity of these batteries with new types of anodes, but still there is no indication of a reduction of the price of these batteries. In this paper we want to introduce the concept of, and the first testing results of, polymer-metal batteries that do not use specially designed electrodes, but metal ionization processes occurring in the bulk of a suitable designed polymer-metal composite. It is expected that this polymer-metal composite type battery will be cheap and eco-friendly.
